Difference between wet sprinkler and dry sprinkler

Differenza sprinkler umido e secco

FRABO offers a wide choice of press fittings suitable for “wet” or “dry” sprinkler systems in different materials: copper and bronze, stainless steel and C-Steel . But what is the difference between “wet” sprinkler and “dry” sprinkler?

“Wet” sprinklers are the most common. In this kind of systems, pipes are filled with pressurized water. In case of fire, the heat-sensitive element breaks for the rise of temperature and it allows the water to flow on the fire zone.

On the contrary, in “dry” sprinklers, pipes are filled with pressurized air, instead of water.

The main advantage of dry sprinklers is to protect even the areas where the wet type would not work because of the water freezing inside the pipes. A special valve prevents the water flow until the fire activates the sprinklers. By opening the valve, air flows out while water flows into the pipes to reach the fire zone.
